Veterinary assistants play a vital role in the everyday balance of a veterinary hospital or laboratory. As a vet assistant, you will provide support to veterinarians and technicians. Providing quality care for animal patients by feeding, supplying environmental enrichment, running laboratory testing, and assisting with nursing care are just a few of the things that veterinary assistants do throughout the day.
The skills needed for the AVA exam are taught through comprehensive veterinary assistant training developed by VetBloom (an Ethos Veterinary Health company). You will learn from industry experts all about animal anatomy and physiology, with a focus on dogs and cats, while gaining invaluable knowledge of medical terminology and animal diseases. In addition, you will learn to care for animals in a veterinary clinic, how to sterilize medical equipment, disinfect and maintain rooms and cages, and provide emergency first aid to animals that are injured or sick.
The Registered Apprenticeship program is comprised of MedCerts online training programs as well as 2000 hours of on the job training with a sponsoring employer. MedCerts Apprenticeship programs combine class training and “on the job training” to provide individuals the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills learned with an employer to quickly become a strong contributor in the workplace.
