What does an EKG Technician do?

Electrocardiograph (EKG or ECG) technicians perform diagnostic tests to aid doctors in identifying and treating cardiovascular problems in patients. With additional on-the-job EKG training or experience, you may specialize in areas such as cardiac catheterization, Holter monitoring, phonocardiography, stress testing, and vectorcardiography. You should have an interest in high-tech mechanical equipment and be able to sympathize and reassure patients who are apprehensive about the testing procedure.

Our 12-week online EKG certification program will prepare you for certification through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) as a Certified EKG Technician (CET).

You’ll learn medical terminology and disease processes and will become familiar with healthcare settings, how to explain procedures to patients, monitor blood pressure, position patients, apply Holter monitors and assist cardiologists with stress testing. MedCerts’ certification programs are fully online and designed for remote learning, allowing students to progress at their own pace. The instructional design incorporates interactive elements, simulations and expert instruction.

Required courses for this program include Professionalism in Allied Health, Introduction to Human Anatomy and Medical Terminology and Electrocardiography.

MedCerts includes exam fees and preparation materials in the program cost. The courses are designed to prepare students to take and pass the Certified EKG Technician (CET) exam. Additionally, MedCerts students are provided access to a Student Success Advisor team, Subject Matter Experts and Career Coaches to assist with exam prep.
