Security specialists have the technical expertise to safeguard various kinds of networks and operating systems. There’s an ongoing need for professionals with this up-to-date industry knowledge, and MedCerts’s IT security specialist program can help you to develop it.

Developing and Learning Skills

The IT Security Specialist program is designed for students with some experience in network configuration and security. In the program, students learn how to:

  • ‌Configure operating systems and workstations for maximum security

  • ‌Develop recovery procedures to implement in case of a breach

  • Evaluate security risks and identify threats to software, hardware, and location

  • ‌‌Introduce best-practice authentication and access controls

  • Reduce the risk profile for systems and individual components

‌Students explore these skills through expert-led video coursework that includes participatory elements, interactive exercises and game-based learning.

Curriculum and Credentialing

Over the course of 12 weeks, students in the program complete two six-week courses:

  • ‌Security+. Includes foundations of network and organizational security, along with the core knowledge necessary for higher-level study.

  • ‌Microsoft Office Series III. Includes the uses and applications of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, OneDrive, and Skype.

Once you complete the course, you’ll be eligible to apply for the CompTIA Security+ certification, which confirms your qualifications for a network security position. You can also use it as a stepping stone to pursue more advanced certifications.

Costs and Financing

The program costs $2,300 out of pocket. There is financing available for those who qualify. Depending on your needs and circumstances, you could pay as little as $199 a month with $230 down.

The IT Security Specialist program is also an approved option through several workforce development grants, including the MyCAA scholarship program for military spouses and Army COOL credentialing assistance for active duty service members.

Who Is It For?

The IT Security Specialist program is best for students with a CompTIA Network+ certification or two years of IT administration experience with a focus on security.

If you don’t have the requisite experience, don’t worry. MedCerts has a variety of stackable programs that can help you work your way up, starting with the three-week Fundamentals of IT program.

What to Expect
