1. MyCAA Offers Access to Fantastic Career Resources
As a military spouse using MyCAA, you have access to career coaches who can help you define your career path. This is an important and necessary step prior to activating your MyCAA scholarship. Additionally, you’ll also have the ability to do in-depth occupation research and build your resume with an experienced career coach who works exclusively with military spouses.
2. MyCAA Users Report Higher Earnings Than Non-Users
A research brief from Rand Corporation found that MyCAA users were more likely to find work and earn more than military spouses who hadn’t used the benefit. After 2011, users of the benefit earned more rapidly than their counterparts who didn’t use their MyCAA benefit.
3. MyCAA Provides Opportunities for Portable Careers
When you move a lot, it can be challenging to quickly land a new job. With MyCAA, one of the biggest goals of career coaches is to see to it that students are choosing careers in high-growth fields.
These fields are also highly portable, including:
- Massage therapy
- Medical assisting
- Paralegal
- Phlebotomy
- Medical billing and coding
Healthcare jobs in particular are highly portable because there is a large demand across the country for healthcare roles to be filled quickly. Doctors’ offices and hospitals are often busy and understaffed, leaving more opportunity for trained and certified individuals to step in.
4. Your Program May be Paid in Full
Depending on what program you pick, your education may be paid in full. MyCAA offers up to $4,000 of financial assistance, in $2,000 increments per fiscal year. It’s important to remember this benefit is paid toward programs that end in a license, certification or Associate’s degree in a portable career field and occupation. Not all military spouses are eligible, though, so be sure to check to see if you qualify.

MyCAA can be one of two federal education sources used to pay for the same program. If you have any idea of the type of program you’d like to start, you’ll want to log into the Department of Defense Self-Service Logon where you’ll create a profile to get started. This is the same system you use for accessing your Tricare benefits, so it will probably look familiar!
