Gear Up For Online Learning: A Service Member Checklist

Talk to an Army C.A. Education Consultant Today

If you’re an active service member in the United States Armed Forces, you know how to be prepared and ready for whatever comes your way. That includes online learning colleges, even if it’s been a long time since you’ve been in class.

Signing up for online learning is an exciting opportunity because you’ll be able to build your skill set for your professional life. Whether you want to use what you learn to grow your military career or a civilian life after your service ends, career training can be extremely beneficial.

Still, the process can feel overwhelming — even for a professional soldier. An online learning checklist can help you move confidently into this next chapter of education and experience. You can be sure you’ve set yourself up for success and have everything covered.

Online Learning Checklist

As an active service member, you may be eligible for academic grants from the U.S. Department of Defense. Before you compile everything you need to get ready for class, you’ll want to ensure that you have registered with one of the online educators, like MedCerts, that is an approved provider with the Army Credentialing Assistance program.

Learn more about the potential for no-cost training through MedCerts, then start checking what you need off this online education checklist.

High School Diploma

Like all post-secondary education opportunities, you’ll need a high school diploma. Luckily, this shouldn’t be a problem as all members of the United States Army must have a high school diploma or a GED to enlist. You’ll likely have to show proof of this, so get that ready before you register.

Quiet Place To Focus

Next, you’ll want to find a quiet place where you can focus on your studies. This can be challenging, especially if you live with your family. Consider working in the library or another place where distractions will be limited.

Computer

Online classes, of course, require a computer. However, if you do not own one, it may be possible to borrow one from a library or a friend or family member. Some schools, like MedCerts, provide laptops to students for the length of their training program. Make sure you can log in early to adjust any settings before class.

Internet Connection

Whether using a hot spot on a cell phone or dedicated WiFi access, you’ll need a stable internet connection before beginning your class. Test your connection in advance and troubleshoot to avoid any frustrating problems.

Course Registration and Payment

Active Duty Army, Army Reserve, and National Guard personnel may be eligible for up to $4,000 in grants through the Army Credentialing Assistance Program. If you have questions about this process, MedCerts experts are ready to help.

A Support System for Your Success

Finally, you’ll find more success with your online courses if you have a network of people who support you. Talk with your spouse, family, and friends about your plans before you begin so they can encourage you and help you avoid future issues. MedCerts also assigns you a personal Student Success Advisor to whom you can always turn for help.

Get Prepared for Online Learning Today

By preparing yourself with these elements, you’ll be ready for success from your first day of class to the moment you complete your training and pass your exams.
