Who Is Eligible?
MyCAA funding is available to spouses of active-duty service members, Reserve Components members, and National Guard members. The military sponsor must be in pay grades E-1 to E-5, W-1 to W-2, or O-1 to O-2.
Your spouse must be on Title 10 military orders when you apply for funding, and you must be able to complete your coursework while your spouse is under these orders.
What Can You Do With a Scholarship?
A MyCAA scholarship gives eligible military spouses up to $4,000 in financial assistance for focused career training in $2,000 increments per fiscal year.
Because MyCAA is career-focused, approved programs prepare students for career fields that are in-demand across the country. This includes licensure and certification programs in growing fields like healthcare and IT.
What Are the Benefits of the MyCAA Scholarship?
The MyCAA scholarship can make it easier for military spouses to build and grow careers. Because approved MyCAA programs target highly portable fields, a military spouse can launch a career in one place and keep advancing professionally—even if they have to move long-distance.
According to a study published in 2018, military spouses who participate in the MyCAA program are more likely to be employed and have higher annual earnings, compared to eligible spouses who don’t participate in the program.
The study also showed that participants are more successful when they attend private certification-based schools like MedCerts. These programs tend to get people into the workforce faster, an important component for busy military families.
What’s the Course Completion Timeline Like?
With a MyCAA scholarship, you have up to 12 months to complete an associate degree course or 18 months to finish a license or certificate program.
MyCAA doesn’t allow exceptions to the timeframe, but there are allowances made if you’re unable to finish a course successfully the first time around. You can talk to a career coach and develop a plan to try again, even if you’ve already reached your annual funding cap.
What Types of Courses Are Available?
