Talk to a MyCAA Education Consultant Today

Going back to school is an exciting opportunity. It’s a chance to learn something fresh, start a new career and grow your earning potential. Online schools have made training easier than ever, but military spouses still face challenges that interfere with learning. Access to military spouse student support can make a world of difference.

How to Find Military Spouse Student Support

A healthy support system, whether social or financial, helps relieve stress and provides a sense of well-being. You can find military spouse support in many formats, from online communities and expert advice to mentorship and scholarship funding.

Join Online Communities

Online communities are an excellent way to connect with others who have the same life experiences as you. You can ask questions, share your insights and feel a sense of belonging and friendship.

A great place to start is on social apps like Facebook. Many military communities have location-based Facebook groups to connect military spouses and families moving to the area. Look for local groups dedicated to military spouse students.

The Military Spouse Advocacy Network is another option. The network is a non-profit organization that brings spouses together from all military branches through education, support, and development. You can join the global mentorship hub and chat with other spouses.

Research Military Spouse-Friendly Schools

Before you enroll in a new program, research the new school. Look for a school with dedicated military spouse student services, programs, and benefits. Schools like MedCerts accept funding just for milspouses and vibrant communities where you can make new friends and collaborate with others.

Talk to Experts and Support Advisors

Student advisors provide outreach services to new and existing students, and they are a wealth of information. MedCerts’ student services include access to personal education consultants and Student Success Advisors. You can book a virtual appointment to plan your education and discuss your options for financing and support.

Military One Source also provides free access to expert help. You can call the helpline anytime to get information and advice and speak to an education consultant about student help.

Explore MyCAA Funding

The Department of Defense sponsors a scholarship program called My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA). It provides up to $4,000 in funding to military spouses who pursue training, education, licenses, or certifications in portable careers. The $4,000 can be used in increments of up to $2,000 per federal fiscal year (Oct 1-Sept 30).

There are certain eligibility requirements to access this scholarship. MyCAA is available for:

  • Military spouses married to active duty service members in ranks E1 to E5, O1 to O2 and W1 to W2

  • Spouses of National Guard in the same ranks

  • Spouses with a military sponsor on Title 10 military orders

  • Training that leads to a license, certification, or associate’s degree

  • Continuing education courses to maintain your license

  • Approved programs and schools only, like MedCerts

MyCAA is best for specific careers as you can’t apply the scholarship to general studies. It’s worth checking to see if you qualify, as you may have access to no-cost education in a high-demand career.
