So, is MyCAA Legit? Yes, Here’s What to Know

Interested in a low-cost talent solution for your organization?

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Right? In most cases, yes, but not when it comes to MyCAA. The MyCAA scholarship program is a legitimate education grant for qualifying military spouses.

What Is MyCAA?

MyCAA stands for Military Spouse Career Advancement Account. It’s a government-funded scholarship program that provides financial assistance to military spouses who want to return to school for career advancement.

Is MyCAA Legit?

Yes, MyCAA is a legitimate scholarship program available to military spouses of active-duty members of certain ranks. The program offers education funding, career planning and employment readiness counseling, though there are eligibility requirements.

Training and Education Grant

MyCAA provides a maximum grant of $4,000 with a yearly cap of $2,000. You can use this financial assistance to pay for the education that will maintain or lead to an associate degree, certification or license.

Planning and Coaching

MyCAA also offers coaching to help you identify potential career paths and complete the application. MyCAA coaches help with career assessments, training and education plans, finding MyCAA-approved schools, such as MedCerts, and identifying career opportunities.

Employment Readiness Counseling

The MyCAA program also connects you with employers and provides employment readiness counseling. Access networks, like the Military Spouse Employment Partnership, search for job openings and learn how to create a successful resume. Coaches are on hand to review your resume, discover resources and help you achieve meaningful employment.

How Does MyCAA Work?

Like most scholarship programs, MyCAA has eligibility criteria, program guidelines and an application process.

Eligibility

Every MyCAA recipient has to meet certain criteria to be eligible for the program. The scholarship is available to spouses who:

  • Are married to active-duty members on Title 10 Orders in pay grades:
    • E-1 to E-6
    • W-1 to W-2
    • O-1 to O-3
  • Are married to National Guard or reserve members in the same pay grades above

  • Have completed high school or obtained a GED

  • Have MyCAA documents approved before a date of separation or before the member releases from Title 10 orders

Careers and Programs

You can use your MyCAA scholarship toward any program as long as you meet the following conditions:

  • You have an approved training and education plan

  • You choose a participating institution, such as MedCerts

  • Your education will lead to a certificate, license or associate’s degree

  • Your education will maintain an existing certificate or license

Requirements

You can only use MyCAA to cover tuition in your training and education plan. The program doesn’t cover other tuition or education-related fees, such as:

  • Books, supplies or computers

  • General studies courses

  • Prep or audit courses

  • High school completion programs

  • Living costs
