If you’ve lost a job, either through layoffs or a misunderstanding, it can be challenging to stay positive. You may discover a tough job market in your field, and this can make the prospect of finding a similar job more difficult than you might expect. But in reality, you’ve got an opportunity to make a dramatic and meaningful change in your life.

WIOA, or the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act, is a government-funded program that is specifically designed to help unemployed workers get the training they need to transform their careers. The WIOA program is a grant project that pays for workforce development training and job-search assistance for people who can use the support.

Healthcare jobs are some of the most rewarding — and sought-after — options supported by WIOA. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that healthcare employment is expected to increase at a rate of 14% over the next decade. Training is available for many high-paying specialties that can lead to fast-paced and gratifying healthcare careers. Let’s look at some options worth pursuing.

EKG Technician

An EKG technician, the professional who is responsible for diagnostic tests ordered by doctors, is a valuable part of any medical team. With only an 11-week commitment, you can complete an online training program to prepare you for operating machinery to perform both EKGs and ECGs, both important tests for doctors to identify and treat cardiovascular problems.

Upon completion of this online course, you will be prepared to become a Certified EKG Technician. These certified healthcare professionals earn up to $48,000 a year. With the industry’s increased reliance on medical technology, you’ll see plenty of job opportunities for years to come.

Behavior Technician Specialist

If you enjoy working closely with families, consider a role as a Behavior Technician Specialist. These healthcare professionals help to provide treatment plans for individuals with autism and other conditions.

You may work in a home, school, or clinical setting, and you can be trained for the needed certifications in just 11 weeks.

Professional Coder

Professional Coders play an important role in both patient interests and the proper operation of all medical facilities. They read medical charts to confirm diagnoses and procedures before using a national classification system to categorize them for insurance and payment purposes.

After you receive training for this position, you’ll be prepared for the gold standard in certification.

Pharmacy Technician Specialist

Pharmacies exist in nearly every town in the nation, as well as in hospitals and other medical offices, so there are many positions available for trained Pharmacy Technician Specialists. These healthcare professionals assist pharmacists in filling prescriptions and offering advice to those in need.

It’s possible to train online for this role. In 16 weeks, you’ll be ready for the certification exam. Registration and the cost of the exam are covered by your tuition.

Medical Front Office Administration Specialist

If you enjoy working with people, consider the role of a Medical Front Office Administration Specialist. After completing the 16-week online healthcare program, you’ll be ready for certification. This training will help you provide much-needed support in any medical office environment.

These are just some of the medical careers that qualify for WIOA funding. If you’re not sure how to break into the healthcare industry, MedCerts can help. Trained representatives are available to answer any questions you may have about your new career in healthcare.
