Details About the Change
The Tech+ certification will officially replace ITF+ on July 31, 2025. It’s been updated to provide entry-level IT professionals a broader skill set, including cybersecurity, digital literacy and the importance of data in decision-making. In light of this change, MedCerts is updating its Fundamentals of IT program to align with Tech+ requirements and prepare students for the Tech+ certification exam.
What the Tech+ Certification Covers
The Tech+ certification covers the foundational skills needed to launch a career in tech. It’s an ideal starting point for entry-level roles and can be a stepping stone to more advanced positions, such as those in cybersecurity or cloud architecture.
The exam focuses on six major areas:
- Tech concepts and terminology: This covers the basics of computing, common terminology and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Infrastructure: This includes navigating network systems and internal components, including cloud computing, wireless networks and other infrastructure essentials.
- Applications and software: This section covers topics such as operating systems, productivity software and artificial intelligence (AI).
- Software development concepts: Tech+ includes information about programming languages and data types.
- Data and database fundamentals: This highlights the value of data, basic database concepts and how data is used.
- Security: This section covers essential security topics such as authentication, device protection and encryption.
Who Is the Tech+ Certification For?
The Fundamentals of IT program is ideal for individuals who want to begin a career in tech but have little or no background in the field. It’s an ideal starting point, whether you’re transitioning from a non-tech industry or beginning your career. This program will give you a solid foundation in IT basics and qualify you for positions such as Helpdesk Technician, IT Analyst or Technical and Software Support Specialist. It’s also a great first step toward more advanced certifications such as CompTIA A+ and Network+.
