Certified Phlebotomy Technicians collect blood and non-blood specimens for testing, so they can be analyzed in a clinical laboratory. Specimen tests are used to diagnose illness, evaluate the effectiveness of medications and determine whether a patient is receiving proper nutrition. After gaining the Phlebotomy certification, you may work in clinical laboratories, hospitals, community health centers, nursing homes, doctor’s offices, blood donation centers and other health care facilities.

Our phlebotomy certification program includes three courses: Professionalism in Allied Health, Intro to Human Anatomy and Medical Terminology and Phlebotomy.
In medical and diagnostic laboratories, patient interaction is sometimes only with the phlebotomist, which allows a unique opportunity to positively impact the patient’s experience. Because customer service is a priority in situations where direct patient care or other patient/client interaction occurs, we’ve included our Professionalism in Allied Health course.
While learning a clinical skill with phlebotomy online classes sounds like a unique idea, our highly immersive, tech-enabled program is designed to replicate the real-world experience through professionally produced simulations, 3D animations and the 12 Elements of eLearning model. You’ll learn the proper procedure for blood draw, keeping a clean, sanitary, and safe work environment and how to assemble and maintain equipment such as needles and specimen containers.
After completion of our Phlebotomy training program, you will have the knowledge to pass the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam, issued through the NHA (National Healthcareer Association), and begin your career in healthcare.
Phlebotomy Certification Exam Eligibility:
While completing clinical requirements is NOT necessary to complete MedCerts’ Phlebotomy Technician program, the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification, awarded by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), requires the minimum clinical requirements set forth in this handbook. These clinical requirements ensure that all individuals who pass the CPT certification exam have received the necessary hands-on experience needed to validate the competencies required to earn the award of certification.
NOTE: This Phlebotomy certification program is NOT available to students who plan to work in the states of California or Washington. Many states have licensing or certification requirements for those performing the role of a Phlebotomist. This MedCerts program is aligned with and/or prepares candidates for certification or licensure in each state except California and Washington.
While MedCerts training and related target certifications may be accepted and/or approved by your state of residency, employers reserve the right to dictate pre-requisite education, experience, or certification/licensure requirements for their positions. We’re not institutionally accredited as a training provider, but the certification you’ll earn in this program is accredited through the exam-issuing authority, the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). So while our school itself doesn’t hold accreditation, you’ll earn an accredited certification upon passing your national exam.
Upon completion of this program, students wishing to sit for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam will be required to complete a minimum of 30 venipunctures AND 10 capillary sticks on a live person, which must be completed within 90 days of passing the CPT exam. Certifications are issued once the exam(s) have been passed and clinical requirements have been met. While career services and clinical support are offered, MedCerts does not guarantee and is not responsible for securing clinical sites. This is the student’s responsibility.
