The first step toward landing a lucrative civilian job after military service is to create a career pathway that aligns with your interests and current skills. Let’s look at some of the highest-paying civilian jobs after military service.

Top 3 Highest Paying Jobs for Post-Military Careers

Top-paying jobs often require stacked credentials earned over time as you progress from the beginning of your new career to mastering it. Looking ahead to some of the best-paying positions can motivate you as you work your way to the top.

Here are three of the highest-paying jobs after military service to consider.

1. IT Security Specialist

Many service members already know the importance of information technology security, so earning a credential in this field makes a lot of sense. The first step is earning the CompTIA Security+ certification, which sets you up to qualify for high-level security positions that pay very well.

An IT Security Specialist is an entry-level position that can lead to a career as an Information Assurance Technician with salaries that can reach up to $79,000. A Security Architect, another position within this career pathway, can earn up to $157,000.

2. Cybersecurity Analyst

Cybersecurity Analyst is one of the top eight programs loved by Army students who’ve earned credentials through MedCerts. It’s an ideal career pathway for service members who already have prior tech security experience.

Completing this program prepares you to earn the CompTIA CySA+ certification, which employers often require for Cybersecurity Analyst roles.

This field offers a fast track to great pay. Cybersecurity Specialists earn up to $97,000 a year, while Cybersecurity Engineers can earn up to $112,000 annually.

3. Professional Coder

If you’ve worked in the healthcare field during your service, becoming a certified Professional Coder could be a natural next step. This is an important role in any medical office or facility, as coders ensure that services are accurately documented and that providers are properly reimbursed.

A certified Professional Coder can earn an average of $91,275 a year, according to the American Academy of Professional Coders.
