Career Change Timeline
Taking positive action starts with a plan. By outlining your goals and action steps for the next six months, you’ll be able to see exactly what you need to accomplish and monitor your progress.
Month One: Researching Your Options
The first thing you should do is explore your career options to determine what job you want to train for. Think about your interests, hobbies, skills and abilities, and how they might tie into a career. It’s also important to think about what jobs will pay well, be in demand and provide opportunities for advancement.
Healthcare and information technology (IT) are examples of fields that are always in demand. Both industries offer many opportunities to find a career that matches your personality and interests. For example, if you love figuring out how computer programs work, you can get certified to become an Ethical Hacker.
Reach out to a workforce case manager through your local American Job Center or speak with a MedCerts Educational Consultant to explore more career paths and resources to help pay for training. With their help, you can choose a path and enroll in a program.
Months Two Through Five: Commitment to Learning
This is where commitment counts. While choosing a career path and starting a program is exciting, completing your training takes dedication and focus. You’ll have the best chance of success by finding a flexible program with strong student support. Online lessons allow you to learn on your own schedule, which is important if you have family or work obligations.
However, you also want to be able to reach out for help when you need it. The last thing you want is to fall behind because you don’t know who to call for tech support. MedCerts provides Student Success Advisors, tech support and Career Coaches to help with every aspect of your career transition.
Month Six: Finding Your Dream Job
You’ve completed your training program! Although your online learning timeline will vary depending on your program, by the sixth month, you should be ready to take your certification exam and start working on your job search. Earning a national, industry-recognized certification makes it much easier to land a job in the tech and healthcare industries. MedCerts offers career services to help you polish your resume and prepare for interviews. You’ll have access to Career Coaches, on-demand webinars and many other resources. With a large network of employers, you’ll have many opportunities to find your dream job.
