Technology & Cybersecurity MOS
As a Cyber Operations Specialist (17C), your skills will also be valuable in a civilian cybersecurity role, such as a cybersecurity analyst or penetration tester. Similarly, if youāre an IT Specialist (25B/25U), your training in communications and networking would complement a career in IT support, network administration and telecommunications.
Several technology-related MedCerts programs ā including the IT Network Technician, IT Helpdesk Administrator or IT Security Specialist programs ā are a great fit to help you land these types of positions in the tech industry. Youāll also earn valuable certifications to advance your career, such as a CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+ or CompTIA Security+ Certifications.
Intelligence & Analysis MOS
As an Intelligence Analyst (35F), you are well qualified for civilian careers in threat intelligence and government contracting. Cryptologic Linguists (35P) have valuable language and analysis skills that transfer well to careers in translation, intelligence and clearance-based contract work.
The following IT and data-related certifications can help you broaden your career options once you exit the military by enhancing your specialized skills and making you more competitive:
Medical MOS
Another high-demand MOS for civilian careers is a Combat Medic Specialist (68W). Your specialized emergency medicine training translates well to civilian jobs like an EMT, paramedic or medical assistant.
Additionally, Radiology Specialists (68P) or Medical Lab Specialists (68K) have valuable skills that directly align with diagnostic and hospital roles. For these MOS, some of the highest-paying civilian jobs after the military include:
- Phlebotomy Technician
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
- Surgical Technologist
- Sterile Processing Technician
Logistics & Operations MOS
Logistics Specialists (92Y/90 Series) have specialized experience in supply chain and inventory management, which is ideal for civilian logistics, warehouse and operations positions. MedCerts can help you channel those skills into a new career with a Project Management Essentials certification and a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) course.
On the other hand, Air Traffic Control Operators (15Q) have highly specialized skills that directly transfer to civilian air traffic control roles, which can also be a very satisfying career.
Engineering & Skilled Trades MOS
Military positions such as Combat Engineers (12B, 12 Series) and Automotive Maintenance (91B) typically have unique experience and skills with construction, heavy equipment or vehicle diagnostics and repair, respectively.
The skills from these MOS lend themselves to civilian jobs in construction and infrastructure or positions like an auto technician or diesel mechanic. However, if you also wish to advance into a supervisor or leadership position, the Project Management Essentials and CAPM Certification can help you get there.
Law Enforcement & Security MOS
Some of the best MOS in the army for civilian jobs also include Military Police (31B). In this role, youāre prepped for civilian law enforcement, corrections and private security. However, if youād like to pivot into a cybersecurity role, youāre uniquely prepared for that too.
MedCertsā IT Security Specialist program offers a natural transition into a cybersecurity position by tapping into your specialized transferable skills, including attention to detail, risk assessment and special incident response. During the course, youāll also add technical expertise to your skillset, increasing your knowledge of things like network security, risk mitigation and access control.
