From WIOA to Hired: 2 Successful Student Stories To Get Inspired

If you are eligible for job training assistance through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), you’re probably ready to get started as soon as possible. Whether you’re talking to a career advisor at an American Job Center or browsing the list of eligible training providers in your state, the number of choices may seem overwhelming.

Finding the right training provider is an important decision. Training programs, the support the provider offers and post-training outcomes all vary. If you choose a training provider that isn’t a good fit for your needs, it can waste time and funding.

MedCerts is an approved training provider for American Job Centers in more than 30 states. Many MedCerts students use WIOA funds, military benefits or Military Spouse Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) grant funds to help them get trained, certified and hired. To see if MedCerts could be the right choice for you, explore the success stories of two real MedCerts’ students.

A Pivot to a New Path

Stephanie Vandermark was enrolled in an RN training program when she realized it wasn’t the right career path for her. Her older sister, a military spouse, had already taken MedCerts training through the MyCAA military spouse scholarship program. She suggested that Stephanie explore other healthcare careers with MedCerts.

Stephanie began working on certification as a Medical Billing Specialist, putting her on a fast track to a rewarding career. She began working as a full-time revenue specialist as soon as she finished her certification.

A Flexible Career for a Military Spouse

In O’ahu, Hawai’i, Kassia Fielder and her husband were living the Air Force life and raising their young child. When their son was ready to start school, Kassia began looking for new opportunities.

Military friends suggested she explore the MyCAA program to pursue career training. Remembering how much satisfaction she’d felt working in an assisted living facility when she was younger, Kassia signed up for a patient care technician program through MedCerts.

Once she finished her certification, Kassia found a job with a home health company as a patient care technician. The flexible hours allow her to work while her son is in school, and she loves that her work lets her help people of all ages.
