MedCerts offers an online dental assistant certification training program to help you get started on your career path. As a military spouse, you may also be eligible for My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) funding, which can provide the financial assistance you need to achieve your goals. Here’s what you need to know about starting your MyCAA dental assistant career journey.
Check Your MyCAA Eligibility
MyCAA is a Department of Defense-funded program that provides up to $4,000 – divided into $2,000 per fiscal year – in financial assistance for career development among military spouses. You must meet the following requirements to qualify for MyCAA:
- Your spouse must be an active-duty service member in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or National Guard.Â
- Your spouse must be in pay grades E-1 to E-9, W-1 to W-3 or O-1 to O-3.Â
- You must be able to start and complete all coursework while your spouse remains in one of the qualifying pay grades.Â
- You must have a high school diploma or GED.Â
Not eligible for MyCAA? Don’t worry. There are other military spouse education benefits available to help you pursue your online dental assistant certification.
Find a MyCAA-Approved Dental Assistant Program
To use your MyCAA funding, you’ll need to enroll in a program approved by MyCAA. MedCerts’ Dental Assistant program is not only MyCAA-approved – it’s also entirely online. That means even if you need to relocate, you won’t have to worry about disruptions in your training. In just 14 weeks, you’ll learn what you need to know to prepare for the Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification exam and start your new, portable career.
Apply for Funding and Enroll
You’ll need to create an account on the official MyCAA website to get started. Your eligibility for funding will be verified through the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).
Next, you’ll need to submit an Education and Training Plan (ETP). Your chosen school must prepare it for you. Once completed, upload it to your MyCAA account.
After your ETP is approved, you can enroll in your dental assistant program and request funding. MyCAA disburses funds on a course-by-course basis directly to the school, which can help reduce any out-of-pocket expenses.
Work with a Student Success Advisor and Career Coach
When you enroll with MedCerts, you’ll also be assigned your own Student Success Advisor, and you gain access to the MedCerts Career Center with in-house career coaches. These professionals are valuable resources who will support you throughout your coursework and help you overcome challenges. The Career Coaches can also prepare you for what comes after you earn your dental assistant certification, providing you with the tools and guidance you need to find work.
Take Advantage of Your MyCAA Benefits to Start Your Dental Assistant Career
Being a dental assistant is more than just a job. It’s a career that provides job security and allows you to help people stay healthy. MyCAA funding can help make your dream of becoming a dental assistant a reality. Check your eligibility and enroll in a MyCAA-approved program, like those offered by MedCerts, to get started.
