1. Who Qualifies for MyCAA While Stationed Overseas?
If you qualify for MyCAA within the U.S., you qualify while stationed overseas. Being stationed Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) doesn’t affect your eligibility.
Requirements for MyCAA funding are:
· Being married to an active-duty service member (excluding Coast Guard)
· Having a high school diploma or GED
· Spouse having Title 10 orders within pay grades E-1 to E-9, W-1 to W-3 or O-1 to O-3
· Finishing your education while your spouse is on active Title 10 orders
· Being listed in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS)
2. What MyCAA Covers and Doesn’t Cover
You can use MyCAA benefits to pay for your tuition toward:
· Licenses
· Certifications
· Employment-focused associate degrees
You’ll get up to $4,000, with $2,000 paid out over two fiscal years, to pay for portable, employment-ready credentials. Note that you can’t use it for books, equipment, living expenses, fees or supplies (unless they’re wrapped into a bundled, all-in-one tuition).
3. How to Use MyCAA Overseas
It’s easy to create your own MyCAA account!
· Open the Military OneSource and Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) portal.
· Schedule a session with SECO career coaches.
· Create your Education and Training Plan with a MyCAA-approved school.
· Wait for approval.
· Enroll in your program.
· Request financial assistance through the MyCAA portal.
Everything happens online, making the process seamless and fully accessible wherever you’re stationed. Note that you might need to work around time zone differences to speak with career staff or support teams.
4. Why Online Learning Is Ideal When You Are Stationed OCONUS
Training options on an overseas base can be limited. By shifting to online learning, you’ll get flexible training you can do around PCS moves, daily childcare or unexpected schedule changes. There are many career possibilities in portable, in-demand fields like healthcare administration, medical billing and coding, IT or project coordination.
5. How MedCerts Supports MyCAA Students Overseas
As an OCONUS spouse, you might not be able to find jobs locally. Status of Forces Agreements (SOFA) for overseas military bases can affect your ability to work in the local economy.
MedCerts supports your training with portable, beginner-friendly MyCAA-approved programs you can do from anywhere. No matter which you choose, you get dedicated learner support, MyCAA documentation assistance and training plans for OCONUS spouses.
You’ll be ready to apply for exciting positions and launch your new career once you return. Depending on your status, you might even discover U.S.-based employers with remote roles while you’re stationed overseas.
